Titanium, a certainty

The qualities that make titanium preferable to steel are primarily its resistance to corrosion—an attribute that makes it practically eternal, especially when used to build a bicycle frame exposed to the elements—and its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Compared to aluminum, titanium stands out in areas crucial for cycle travelers: fatigue resistance and vibration dampening, which together provide superior comfort.

A cycling war machine

The products are true war machines for adventure cycling, built with frame geometries that prioritize comfort. Specifically, the extended wheelbase is crafted to maximize stability at loaded cruising speeds. The relatively low reach promotes a compact, relaxed posture, while the pronounced stack encourages an upright, comfortable position in the saddle. Additionally, the steering angle of 69° enhances stability by widening the trail and further lengthening the wheelbase.

Rohloff and Gates Carbon Drive

Selk’nam Cycles products feature a unique transmission system, combining the Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 hub gear with the Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt. This setup enables smooth, maintenance-free pedaling across thousands of kilometers, silently and in any weather. Alternatively, configurations include a Rohloff with a traditional chain or a 12-speed sprocket with derailleur. These options make each product adaptable to varied cycling adventures.

High-end components

The build is completed with top-of-the-range components, including the Hope Tech EVO crankset, Enve Mountain Boost full carbon fork, Hope Tech4 2-piston disc brakes, durable Ryde Andra 40 rims, and Schwalbe G-One Overland tires with reinforced inner tubes. Alternatively, the setup can include tubeless-ready rims and specific tires for more off-road performance.

"Overall, the bike performs exceptionally well and continues to impress me. After a brief period of adjustment, mainly setting the saddle height, I was able to tackle increasingly longer distances and greater elevation gains. Uphill, I can push hard or shift smoothly to handle even the steepest gradients, while downhill, it feels quick and responsive, especially thanks to the 2-piston Hope Tech hydraulic brakes."

Cyclo Ergo Sum, tester Selk’nam

"Fueled by my growing passion for cycling adventures, the Selk'nam Cycles project was born—a bike built to conquer deserts, mountains, and plains in any weather, whether sun, rain, or wind, without technical limitations for either the rider or the bike itself. This bike embodies all the qualities I’ve found essential for an adventure without setbacks or discouragement, but full of satisfaction. In the end, I can proudly say I achieved my original goal of 'creating my own bike.' And now, it’s time to share it with the world."
